When I wrote this we were in the middle of a string of illnesses. Nobody was getting any sleep, the children were miserable and I was exhausted. It was horrible. I couldn't see the end. But eventually the end came and everything did get better. For now at least. So, if you're having a tough time right now, know that it won't last forever. It will get better and you will sleep again. Make the most of those extra cuddles, accept any help that's offered and try to take a break whenever you can. You've got this mama.

We made a last minute decision to go camping in the New Forest this weekend and it was beautiful. With a baby, a toddler, a dog and no time to properly plan it could have gone terribly wrong but we felt the fear and did it anyway. And, it was worth it. I won't lie, there were moments when I wondered what the hell we were thinking but the tiny bits of stress were worth it to see Roo have the time of her life. I've barely touched my phone all weekend and it's been so nice to be away from everything and just enjoy being together as a family. It doesn't happen anywhere near as often as it should. It's been back to reality with a bang though. The house is a mess, I've got tonnes of washing to do and I'll probably be recovering for a week but I can't wait to do it all again soon. . I missed the last few days of the #springhashtagchallenge and this probably doesn't look like it relates to the Easter prompt at all. But this picture will be how I remember this Easter for years to come.

I asked Roo what her favourite colour was (it changes daily) and she said red so here's a red stack for #springhashtagchallenge colour with @littlepaperswan and @edinburghwithkids. . Once upon a time my beautiful bookcase was filled with the colours of the rainbow. But then I had kids and my wall-to-wall bookshelves were taken down to make way for a nursery. Yes, I'm still grieving now. Some books were gifted, some donated, some stored and others hidden in various locations around the house. Now, my smaller, but still well-loved, bookshelf is mostly black spines. I'm not sure what that says about me or my book choices, maybe that's a discussion for another day. But it's so nice to still see some colour in there. I've always been drawn to the colour red but apparently that doesn't translate to my book choices. . Which colour features mostly on your bookshelf?

Hands up if you've ever threatened to divorce your husband over something completely ridiculous? 🙋‍♀️ Just me? Oops. Sorry Greg. I came across this old rhyme I wrote to my husband earlier and after a week of bickering over who is the most tired I thought I should share. Parenting really tests your relationship sometimes doesn't it?

Sometimes when it all gets too much I grab a cuppa and some space and just breathe. It doesn't sound like much but sometimes it's everything I need. . #springhashtagchallenge - breathe with @littlepaperswan and @edinburghwithkids . 🌷 As the trees bloom so do we 🌷 . We've had another rough night with little sleep. I could sit here and beat myself again about my failings. But after my little kick up the ass yesterday I'm trying to see everything in a more positive light today. And, with my positive head on, it’s clear that flowers aren’t the only thing blooming this spring. . Roo is growing into such an amazing little girl. Her speech is so clear now that most people can understand her random ramblings. She’s hilarious. Honestly, the things she comes out with crack me up, but maybe I’m biased. She’s confident, independent and headstrong too. I’m so proud of how much she’s grown recently. And, it’s not just me that sees it. Nursery are so pleased with her progress that she’s moving up to the next room early. #proudmamaalert . Q is doing really well too. When she’s not screaming for milk, (can’t blame a girl for being hangry), she’s full of smiles for everyone. . I blooming love my kids and wouldn't change them for the world because even when they keep me up all night they give me something to smile about. . #springhashtagchallenge - Bloom with @littlepaperswan and @edinburghwithkids

I’m so angry with myself. I didn’t just let my cup get empty, I might as well have picked it up, tossed it across the room and let it smash into a million pieces. I was so focused on everyone else that I stopped looking after myself without even realising it. But worse than that I started beating myself up about it all. I blamed myself for Roo getting sick because how could I have not known she was in pain? I convinced myself it was my fault Q wouldn’t sleep. After all she’d settle for everyone else and just scream at me. I told myself my husband didn’t love me anymore. Why else would he keep leaving me home alone to struggle by myself? Of course I can see now that this is all nonsense. Toddlers get sick, babies cry and someone has to work to pay our bills. But in my exhaustion it was easier to believe I was useless, a failure, than accept it was just a rough few days. That’s why I’m sharing this as a reminder to myself that self care isn’t just a physical action, it’s an emotional one too. Each horrible word I say to myself cracks my cup a little bit more until no amount of self care can fill it back up again. So I’m making a promise to be kinder to myself and remind myself that I’m doing a good job, even on the days when it feels like nothing is going right. Already I feel a million times better. So, to anyone reading this who might be neglecting themselves a little too: Don’t feel guilty about taking time for you. Remember you are strong and worthy. Be kind to yourself.

This week's #swapitsundays is straws. And I think this might be one of my favourite swaps so far. These stainless steel straws were a Christmas present and are so handy for popping in my bag when we're out and about. Before I just used to try and avoid straws but now I can enjoy them again. Is it just me or do some drinks just taste a million times better through a straw? These banana and mixed berry smoothies definitely do.
